History

After the September 11, 2001 attacks, the subway tunnels around Cortlandt Street collapsed, and the line was closed until September 15, 2002. During the intervening period, the station was renovated, and a diamond crossover switch was installed south of Rector Street, which would allow this station to be used as a terminal during construction of the new South Ferry station. However, this service pattern was not employed.
